The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce held its 10th annual Salute to Local Heroes on Thursday, March 8th at the Town and Country Hotel and celebrated our own group of “Oscar” winners. This year’s 8 heroes are as important to our community as any “Best Picture” or “Best Actor.” They have made a tremendous impact on the lives of others through their heroic acts, years of service, the recovery of stolen vehicles, and numerous volunteer hours through the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol. This year’s heroes are: American Medical Response, Alex England and Ben Schafer, Heartland Fire & Rescue – La Mesa, Fire Captain Matthew Kirk and Deputy Fire Chief Greg McAlpine, La Mesa Police Department, Officer Carlos Gaytan and Master Officer Eric Knudson, and La Mesa Police Department Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, Mike Boatright and Chuck Jackson. These fine men have made a tremendous difference in our community and the annual dinner allows the entire community to come together and honor them.
