Yes, the country may be caught up in this year’s world series, but we in La Mesa have our own “All Star” teams. The Chamber partnered with Teresa McClatchy and her team at Barnes & Noble to encourage folks to purchase books for our military families that live in local military housing and “Stuff” those books in a Jeep that was loaned to us by our own “starting lineup” car dealer, Carl Burger Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM World. Add our “Major League” partner, Grossmont Center that allowed us to feature the Jeep in the Center and helped promote our “Stuff the Jeep” project and we hit a “home run.” To date we have collected 656 books – thank you everyone!
Barnes & Noble’s Teresa McClatchy was phenomenal in her commitment to our Chamber, our project and creating the FREE activities she held from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Teresa and her team focused on special craft activities and story times that were done in a warm and fun setting in her store with raffles held every hour during the day with gifts donated by Barnes & Noble, Grossmont Center and the La Mesa Chamber. “Special” raffles were held at 4 p.m. in the mall with our own pirate to assist. Congressman Duncan Hunter sent congratulatory certificates to sponsors – Barnes & Noble, Grossmont Center and the Chamber, with Senator Joel Anderson sending his representative, Cameron Bradley to make presentations to all, as well. Chamber Board members Maggie Eggers, Jim Butcher, Steve Browne, Marcia Tolin and Sandy Eggleton attended and joined in the day’s fun, along with Miss La Mesa, Heather Bardin and Miss Teen La Mesa, Alexis Smith. Thank you to all who participated and our special thanks to our Chamber “Ace” photographer, Sandy Small.
