The La Mesa Chamber believes that being a community leader includes hosting a “Meet The Candidate Forum” each election cycle. This activity allows the attendees to submit questions that are important to them during the evening.
We are happy to announce that all of them chose to attend. Our thanks to Council Member, Kristine Alessio and candidate, Colin Parent for participating. Unfortunately, Council Member Ruth Sterling had a trip and fall accident that week and broke her arm and could not attend. She called the day before our Forum and wanted to be sure that the audience knew how disappointed she was to miss the evening. We wish her a speedy recovery.
The Moderator of the evening, Bill Hammett, a Board Member and local business owner did a tremendous job of keeping the evening moving and on time – thank you Bill for being an amazing Moderator!
Here are some of the topics that were on the minds of the audience that evening: public safety, the homeless population, the financing of building a new library, transportation, the current pension liability and how to pay for it and Prop L – how to replace that money when it sunsets. The candidates were also able to share their vision and plans during their opening and closing statements during the evening.
The evening volunteers made the entire run smoothly and we would like to recognize and thank: Timekeeper – Gil Lopez, Greeters – Renee Levine, Gloria Shepard and Tracey Ferguson, Review Team – Marcia Tolin and Sandy Eggleton. We send special thanks to Sandy Small our Chamber Photographer who graciously captures all of our events.
