The La Mesa Chamber thanks the public, members and friends for making this year’s annual senor project an overwhelming success. People drove from throughout the region to bring items to the Chamber office to be included in the gift baskets and bags that are delivered to the 23 La Mesa homebound seniors this year. The Chamber receives all of the items and wraps them in gift baskets and bags that are delivered to each senior. In addition to these needed items we are honored to receive handmade blankets from several seniors from within the community, as well. These ladies begin crocheting and knitting the blankets at the beginning of each year to have them ready for our holiday project. This selfless act is a true “labor of love” and we wanted the public to know the dedication of these seniors within east county. A highlight of the project is the delivery of the hot turkey dinners, purchased from Marie Callender’s delivered to our seniors along with the (4) boxes and bags full of food that were all delivered on December 13th. Each year the La Mesa Chamber allocates funds to assist these seniors and were joined by the following financial partners who donated cash and gift cards: Barona Resort & Casino, Kyle Nyswonger of Carl Burger Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM World, Council Member Kristine Alessio and Michelle Huey of Pete’s Place. In addition to these cash donations and gift cards, we collected canned food, toiletries, note pads, stationary, clothing and accessories, blankets and gift cards in various denominations for a Grand Total of 3,581 items. The generosity of the public and our members in supporting this project each year, is a testament to love that we all have for our senior population. Our seniors do not ask for much and accept all that they are given with a grateful heart. We thank everyone who participates in this project.
