Sylvan Learning Center of La Mesa Ribbon Cutting

Sylvan Learning of La Mesa celebrated Sylvan’s 40th year of building academic confidence and their 11th year in our area on Saturday, July 27th at their La Mesa location, 8366 Parkway Drive in La Mesa between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to .2:00 p.m. The Chamber held the ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m. to kick off the celebration. Certificates of congratulations and appreciation were presented by La Mesa Council Member Akilah Weber, Tori Floyd representing Supervisor Dianne Jacob and the Chamber presented a certificate from Congressman Duncan Hunter, as well as the La Mesa Chamber membership plaque, with Board Member Eleanor Mohammed. Executive Director, LaDreda Lewis welcomed everyone with the first activity of the Open House, a “Learn How Sylvan Works & Activities” for children entering 1st – 6th grade. From 12 – 1 p.m. there was a Sylvan STEM Demo for kids entering grades 1st through 6th grade. In addition to all of these activities, Sylvan Learning set up the opportunity for any attendees that were non-members of Orangetheory – to go 3 doors away and participate in a complimentary class from 11:20 a.m. – 12:50p.m. A special guest during this special day was the opportunity to “Meet A Scientist.” LaDreda invited Dr. Patrice Cuff attend. Dr. Cuff is a scientist who works in the field of hematology, oncology, with a focus on Myelodysplastic Syndrome, the disease which Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts overcame in 2012. Needless to say, there was lots to do during this celebration!
